Design Expo

May 3, 2006

I seem to be having trouble these days writing about things when they happen; it usually takes me a few days to get around to it. Anyway, last Saturday was the Design Expo at CU, where engineers set up exhibits of projects they've done for classes. As part of our senior project we were required to set up something for smrt.

So Thursday David printed out our awesome poster. Friday, he and I went over to the hardware store to McGyver up a way to display it at the expo. And Saturday morning, David, Cory, and I showed up around 9:30 to set up. I helped David bring over his TV and his shuttle, bandit. Most of the day was spent standing around talking and watching cartoons—the advantage of having a media center for a project was that we could use it to watch Jonny Quest and Futurama when there wasn't anyone asking about our project.

Mostly the day felt like a pretty big waste of time; we were just standing around not getting anything done. My dad came by and I got to show him the final product complete with remote control—that was cool, especially since he'd been privvy to me really losing my temper over this project a few months ago. David's dad and uncle also came by, which was equally cool. Other than that, it was pretty boring. One really fantastic thing did happen, though. We won an award for our project. Nothing terribly spectacular: a beer glass that has the ITLL logo on it and some candy. But this is the first time in my life I can recall winning something like that, and it was pretty cool. We also got something like 5% extra credit points in senior project, which is pretty nice.

Jen took this great picture of Cory, David, and me.
